thanks are due to alla you. I've unloaded the bugs (they wanted to go live with my friends anyway) and with the support from this list as back-up, and a quick glance into John's FI rap in the idiot's, i scored the 69 fastback that i'd mentioned previously. Only cost 8 bennys, plus a quick surf and a couple more bucks at Bentley for the manual. she's a beauty! No rust to speak of (pan is IMMACULATE!). A little dent repair bodywork eventually on the right side. Some new upholst for the seats (no hurry) and voila! and Get THIS: Name's Francis (christened by the original owner) she's a california car that's been in Berkeley since new. Only two owners (we're the third), and the lady we bought it from Never, I repeat Never drove the freeway-highway in the eighteen years she owned her! As timid an old hippy as ever I've met... "Those people drive so Fast! I got on the freeway once by accident and was driving about 45 and they all Rushed me. It was so scary!", she told us... :) so basically this girl hasn't seen much of fourth gear in awhile and has only had 33,000 miles put on her in the last eighteen years. I kid you not! All records (including original manuals, services, dealer docs etc...) since day one. Electrical is sweet, sunroof slides and seals perfectly (never used it), tires are newish, the glass is ALL good, popouts are perfect, and even the trim and seal rubber, though a bit cracked and iffy, has no leaks or bad rotting. The "cutting out" problem i had asked about onlist seems to be nothing more than a badly needed valve adjust and tune-up (though i tossed a can of FI cleaner in with the fuel top off just to make sure) and she's running like a top. In fact, it reminds me of driving a 912 Porsche (my grandparents both had matching '69 912's one white/ one black). XLNT! she's really a nice addition to the family, and balances out the 64 westy wonderfully. My honey, Bridget (we bought it for her), is happy, I'm happy, and even the pups seem to dig her. I'm not so worried about the FI as i was in my previously complete ignorance, and I appreciate the responses from all regarding. Oh yea, and not to worry, i wouldn't dream of changing out the engine now that i've seen, been inside of, and driven this one. Amazing amount of power and pep. Consider us converts. Thanks to all for the info and support. Now that that's out of the way, we can finally hop in the westy and run off to my land in baja for a few weeks of BADLY needed R&R and leave the stresses and excuses of the workaday whirrrled far behind for a bit. best to ya, ~ shin (aka D.A.Johnson) 64 westy poptop 69 fasty YAY! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
