I found a round Crouton Can in the cabinet a few months ago, don't remember
the brand, (it's in my car and car is across town at them moment) but it was
one of those cardboard things, with a thin aluminum top and bottom and
silver inside, I cut away the inside of the top and bottom, leaving the
aluminum lip for a good mating surface and structure, it fits PERFECTLY and
stands about 6" tall. Works really well. (btw, put the rest of the croutons
in a baggie or you WILL get in trouble when she finds them where you left
them on the counter in your glee and excitement of finding such a perfect
"tool" ;)

On your sync idea, I would think it would work if you had 2 of those cool
expensive ones with the dial gauge, but wouldn't there be the tiniest
manufacturing variations in any of these (I use the cheap little "bob in the
tube one) enough to throw off a reading. Is it really that exacting that we
have to worry about millimeters difference in reading? (I'm asking that, not
being sarcastic) can it make a big difference?
