This is absolutely correct. I've never seen a proper crimping tool in ANY automotive shop anywhere. If it costs less than $100 it is not adequate. Good ones cost between $150 and $200, really! They are usually only found in small industrial environments. The air operated, mass production tools will cost a couple of thousand. This was what was used on our original harnesses and they make a crimp that only the $150+ tool can duplicate. The normal Sears or NAPA tools don't even come close. This is why I strongly encourage everyone to take good care of your original harness and connectors.
