I don't think you would succeed at making the type 3 parts fit on a type 4 
engine. The intake ports on the type 4 head are just a completely different 

There would be no point at all in going to a 1.7 or 1.8L type 4 engine as this 
size is easily done in a type 3 engine at half the price. Note also that the 1.8 
engine parts are lower production and often cost MORE than 2.0 parts.

There's a LOT that can be done to a 1600 cc type 3 engine that will improve 
its pep without giving up on reliability and driveablity. Some of these things 
are cheap and some are expensive, but going that shouldn't deter you since 
going type 4 was an expensive choice and you've already made that decision.
