<x-charset iso-8859-1>Come to Oregon as we have the 25-year rule: Autos older than 25 years are exempt from DOT checks (emission and sound). This only applies in metro areas, meaning if you live outside city limits then you don't have to go through DOT. And yes, the engine must be up to operating temp. When there are two cars in front of you (and one in the bay being tested) then start up your engine. When you are next (and one car is in the bay) give the car some fuel (bring up the idle) to around 1500rpm. This way the engine will be nice-n-hot for the test.
