<x-charset Windows-1252>Thinking more clearly now, I think the clue here is the fact it runs fine
until it's done 10 or more miles.  If it got bad then stayed bad, you could
suspect the condenser, but I can't see why it starts to fail - that sounds
more like a coil to me, taken with the points damage.
Fuel starvation might be the cause, and was sometimes a problem with the
mechanical fuel pump pushrod on the carbed model (more often with the Type 1
engine) when it began to seize in the plastic flange.  Yours is FI isn't it,
