<x-charset iso-8859-1>I've only had trouble with these when someone else had done it wrong before
(chewed heads, carved up sockets).  I've found the right tool still does the
job, if you're careful:-
Clean out the socket head, get the right tool (a 12-point M8 spline socket)
and tap it firmly into the screw socket.  Unless it's a toy it will be
harder than the socket head.  Try to tighten a fraction first (almost
imperceptibly), and you may be OK.

That's worked for me so far, but if not for you, try a self-grip wrench
(mole grips) on the heads, and if that fails you will probably need a small
cut-off wheel or grinder (ugh - messy).
Get some new screws to use for reassembly however you do it.

If someone had used hex head screws, they would be rounded off by now
anyway!
