<x-flowed>What I was told when I did mine (on a previous car, a bug) was to set the seal in and the by screwing the cap down that seats the seal all the way. That seemed to work fine for me.

As for the "metal washer" is it fairly big diameter, and thin? If so I think you are refering to the oil deflector that goes on the outside of the seal, between the seal and the cover plate.

I dont believe that anything goes between the bearing and the spacer.

Did you pre-lube the seal a little so the dry axle doesnt tear it up? Is it possible that you damage the seal surface during installation?


tricks for a better installation. Are you supposed to seat the seal >all the
way down to teh shoulder in the seal cover? my kit came with a small >metal
washer, that goes between the bearings and the spacer correct? I also got
two of the paper gaskets. I used one with the bearing cover and the >other
goes?
