I use a 3/8" ratchet handle with two short extensions on the plug socket. Loosen the plug, remove the handle and top extension and spin the plug out by hand with the lower extension. There's not a lot of room to swing the handle, so only use it for final tightening and first loosening. (You don't want much torque on the plugs anyway.)
