For the US/CDN market VW did switch to AFC L-jetronic fuel injection for the final 1974 model year of VW412 four-door sedans and two-door wagons. And, this came with the 1.8 litre EC series engine and automatic transmission only. However, for the few two-door sedans sold in USA for the 1974 model year, the transmission was manual only, the engine was a 1.7 litre EA series and came with EFI D-jetronic fuel injection.
