<x-charset iso-8859-1>You definitely have a type 4 brain they start with PN 022. It's quit possible you also have the correct brain for a 74 type 4. I've looked at a number of the type 4 brains and the latter ones (73/74) all had the 022 906 021E part number, but they also had different Bosch part numbers. Take a look at http://members.rennlist.com/pbanders/djetparts.htm#parts and you can see some of the differences. The site is for a Porsche but the D jetronic FI is basically the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. The VW/Porsche part number remain the same but the Bosch part number changes. Why I am not positive but I believe it has to do with emissions. I've done some experimenting on my 72 Squareback and ran a brain from a 1970's Saab with a 5k pot in the head sensor line because the Saab is water cooled. The brain mounting brackets were different but it ran like a champ. Now I am running a 73 type 4 brain(same mounting as type 3) pn 022 906 021E (Bosch pn 0280000038), and once again the car runs like a champ. Now I just need the time to dial in the pressure sensor and idle pot on the brain with a CO meter. Additionally the newer pressure sensors are fairly easy to adjust because they use a single screw, Leon Martinez gave me some good advice. I would recommend holding on too the brain it may come in handy putting your FI system back to original. Just some thoughts and experiences. Jim S. Alrighty.. here in my lap is the brain out of our 74 type 4 412. The part # on it is 022 906 021 E Now, since the previous owner had for some strange reason replaced the type 4 F.I. system with a type 3 of unknown vintage (this is verified) I need to know if this is the type 3 or correct type 4 brain, before we put it up on Ebay. Obviously, if it is the type 4, we will keep it, since it works just fine. (the car just doesn't run right with the totally incorrect FI system in her) Any help on tracking down the part # origin would be extra extra wonderful!!! :-) Micah 68 FI SB 74 T4 SB 412 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
