<x-charset iso-8859-1>I have a reasonably serious oil leak. It drips from the tin at the sides, from the bottom of the fan casing and from the muffler. Also from a few points on the sump, but not from the plate with the six nuts. I cleaned the engine then took it to my mechanic who decided that the oil cooler must be leaking because when we put it on the hoist we could see that oil has been spraying out the vent from the oil cooler onto the transmission and other surfaces including the rubber boot on the cv. However when i got home i looked again, and I noticed that oil has also been spraying out from the split in the fan casing and spraying directly onto the side of the coil. This suggests to me that somehow oil is flowing into the fan and then being sprayed through the oil cooler and the rest of the engine, so maybe the oil cooler is not at fault. Do you usually get oil leaks into the fan housing? if so where do they come from? Any thoughts would be appreciated so i can avoid the unnecessary replacement of the oil cooler.
