These wheels were introduced for the "Marathon" edition of the 1972 Super Beetle, celebrating the new world record in production numbers of one car model (beating the model T Ford's production of 15 007 033 units). This car was quickly nicknamed "Weltmeister" (World Champion) and the wheels are often known as the same. I have 8 or 9 of these wheels, but only one dented cap. Picture and info on the Marathon, with the 10-spoke wheels: http://www.1302super.com/page11.html AFAIK, The Beetle is still the world Champion with over 21 million units, but the Golf is closing up fast. I believe the Golf has over 18 million units now.
