You've switched to carbs and not provided anywhere for the OE crankcase 
vent to go. You will need to put the vent hose somewhere, or perhaps just 
remove the check valve that is in the original vent line.

The BEST thing to do would be to install a 68-71 breather system. This 
requires the earlier breather box and filler tube. 

If you're melting that filler hose, something major is wrong. Is your cooling air 
intake bellows installed and intact. It sounds like you might be running WAY 
hot. Fix this quickly!
