I hate to say it, but while that hose probably needed to be replaced, it was 
probably not your problem. There is always a small amount of postive 
pressure in that hose, and air that might get in there drifts right up to the 
reservoir.

It might be instructive to monitor the fuel pressure while you're driving 
sometime.
