The bushing is a bearing that locates the shift rod and allows it to slide and 
rotate easily, without rattling around. The bug part is the same as ours.

Not sure. Sounds like you might not have all the parts in there right. Do you 
have a Bentley manual. There is a good exploded view in there.

I don't remember exactly what these parts look like, but there should be a 
pin sticking out of the shifter ball which fits in a slot somewhere. This keeps 
the shift lever from spinning freely. Does yours spin?
