Often pops and bangs from the exhaust are due to holes and leaking joints. I've never tried running with no muffler there at all! Back-pressure is important for proper running - that's why quite a few special systems make the engine pop and bang. Why was Toby's engine doing that at Parma? I can't remember what he posted as the reason. Dave.
