Look at the teeth on the flywheel as well through the hole that the starter
came out of to check they are not damaged as well. If they are a bit munched
it is probably a good idea to pull the engine and file off the burs,
otherwise the starter might have a hard time engaging.

The flywheel ring gear on 12V cars is hardened so it should be all right,
but you need to find the cause of the starter getting damaged.
