Hey guys, Check this out, I was thinking of all of you and about this particular post this morning on my way to work. I checked to see what the speed was at 4000. I have stock wheels and tires do the measurement should be correct. At 4000 rpm's I was catching 84 mph. I made sure that the needle on the gauge correctly started at 0 and I ran down this huge hill and this is what I got. Remember the old advertisements about our cars? I remember one of them advertising about how the *New* T-3 could go 85! That was one of the big selling points. SO in turn I am thinkin that the PO's of all your cars most likely have changed out the tranny during its one of its Liftime(s):). And most people used parts that were cheaply available like a bug tranny. Because it probably was cheaper and most mechanics don't know the tranny's were geared differently. So I think that we all had 85 m/hr tranny at one point in time and some of us still do --OR-- I and a few others have very special trannies. Its funny because I keep wondering about how I have so little power with my 1600. Cause I drove a few other VW's and the only thing that is explainable is that the tranny they have is geared lower therfore more peppy. I thought I had a bad eng until I saw the first of this post. When Keith was saying that he was at 70 at 3300 (I think that is what was said - I could be wrong) and that he reach 8? at 4000. so I decided to check myself.
