Re: [T3] blazing hot coil

<x-charset iso-8859-1>Because the points were closed when you turned the key off. This runs a
constant current through the coil. That is why you should NEVER leave the
ignition ON when the engine is not running.

Subject: [T3] blazing hot coil

another simple question....

the other day when i was trouble shooting this distributor problem, i had
left the key on and walked away with a book in my hand scratching my head.
i came back to have another go and i got no response whatsoever from the
car, not even a sputter, so i went around back to see if i had left the
cap off, and i smelled something hot...i found it, and i almost burned my
arm off. just kidding.
the coil was blazing hot, i mean really hot, so i turned the key off and
let it cool before proceeding.

why would the coil get blazing hot?
