[T3] I bought a new Mexican VW MADE head today

<x-charset iso-8859-1>P.A.

I went to serveral machine shops that did not want to touch my MOFOCO
head with a ten foot pole, including Don.

Don's place at The Bug Patch machine shop. He told me that he had
2 big valve Mexican heads . I just wanted one but he was working on them
and could only sell the pair. I asked for a Mexican bone stock head but he
had none and it would take a few days to get them. He offered me Autolinea's
stock and Autolinea's CB brand head too, I declined , my little internet
research found people
with some serious problems with CB's (breaking valve stems, loose seats,
loose valve guides etc) but not as bad as MOFOCO. He told me that I could go

to the VW dealership in Tijuana for a quicker solution .I needed a head
before the
weekend and I let him know what I decide.

I went down into Mexico for lunch today and mosyed down to the nearest
VW dealership and requested a VW head. They pulled their 1600 EFI version
from the shelf and placed it in front of me . The head had 043 and VW casted

on it , it looked like the best of the stock casting I ever saw. I asked
why the
head was bare, they told me that was the only way they sell them and that
Americans always come down to the factory outlets to buy a bunch of bare
heads anyhow. Heads are sold separately from the valves springs etc...
People who
want high performance heads buy these , cut them open and place big valves
in them. The dealership told me that they have never seen a cracked head in
their service shop, melted from a fire yes or burned due to a loose head but
the
stock VW 043 with cracks would be odd. They probably all say that....

I think that all of those Mexican heads that make it to the states come from
mysterious vendors that buy the common bare 043 heads from the underground
factory outlets then they are cut open for bigger valves , that is why some
heads
paperwork say made in Mexico and assembled in the USA.

www.oldvolks.com and the The Bug Patch ( Don's shop) in San Diego have
tested and use these heads, they get them from a wherehouse that gets them
from a mysterious vendor.

I guess that is why you have had luck with these heads, because they are
VW factory made.

The vendor that sells the original bare VW 043 off the internet for 99
dollars
but they used to be around 73 bucks a few years ago is www.btlmex.com .
Buy it and use it with the valves they sell (you got to ask them for the
valves,
sold separately) or open them up like Don at The Bug Patch does it.
I will let you know how it works out.
