The Invasion is not over for everyone yet. Greg and Emily left our house this morning and are either camping in southern Oregon or nearing Berkeley by now. Believe it or not, but Keith should be back in Ontario (Parma) again tonight. His plan was to leave Toby's this morning for the 1.5 hour drive to dip his toes (speed rated tires, add that to the dark list) in the Pacific ocean, then double back to Idaho! When Russ gets home I hope we have a report on John J. and Jim A. too. Let's all wish them safe passage. Here are Maddy and I's highlights from the trip: - Road trips are a blast with a 5 year old, recreating the Oregon trail on the way home. - Road trips are a blast in a huge T3 caravan! - I caught Jacob's trailer donut in the rearview, a 50 foot high dust cloud, heart pounding... - John and Sylvia's car had a several hundred pound handicap due to that stereo. I stuck my head in the window and my hair stood on end! (why is that?) - Yes, there are mosquitos in the desert - So many T3's so little time, I never did check out Jim's '69 square or that silver notch or... - Bryan and his wife making sure everyone was being taken care of, getting a friend to pick up gear oil for me in Ontario (see below). - Paranoia. A loose bolt in the fan housing sounds an awful lot like a dry transmission when your 380 miles from home. (although I was 1/2 quart low) Thanks to Keith for talking some sense into me when I thought my engine was overheating. - Turning every gathering into a car tuning session, with several hands to help, lend parts and diagnose. - Gas mileage was over 30 mpg for the whole trip, including the mountain between Pendleton and Idaho. - Camping with a cool group, talking smack about Toby, and staying up way too late around the campfire. - Looking out for each other, on the road, at the show and in camp. - Talking enthusiastically for hours about our cars, and none getting tired Peter Parker '66 Square; Phillip Portland, OR ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
