Have you been reading the rec.bike.tech newsgroup where there are those who express "horror" predictions about lithium grease? There's no such problem. Grease is just a mixture of oil and a substance chemically known as a soap. Lithium based grease uses lithium as the base for the soap, but the other choices are sodium or calcium. About all you can find anywhere today is lithium which is the soap base of choice because the lithium soap base has a higher melting point. The soap does nothing for lubrication; the soap is only a carrier and dispenser for the oil. The soap is basically inert. Lubriplate is nothing more than The Filmite Oil Corps brand of greases, most of which are lithium based. They are all good products. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
