Re: [T3] Low power until the engine warms up

Hi all... I am one of the folks on the list with a power problem. The car lacks power
until it warms up. Once the engine temp is at operating conditions (>150F) things
are/seem fine. But here is a more complete listing of the current state of things in my
engine:

Brain 022 906 021E VW
      0 280 000 037
72/3 Pressure Sensor (black plug undisturbed on back)
72/3 5-prong TVS. Double checked setting, mine clicked so I set it 2 deg further than
that click. 0 (ohms) closed, inf throughout throttle (across 47&17, the two in the
middle). I was under the impression it should swing between 0 and inf. as the throttle
opens but I think my meter might not be that sensitive. I also tested a friends TVS in
his 72 FI Fastback and his read the same, 0 closed, inf through range. I assume that it
checks out okay then? Also, I hear ~20 click from closed to fully open throttle.
68 Single Vacuum Adv. Distributor #311 905 2051
My injectors ground on the engine block.
I timed the car at 5BTDC like a 73, Dwell 44.
Idle Fuel Pressure is okay
Mid-RPM Voltage at Batter 13.8V (a little low, but okay?)
Both temp. sensors are in spec with Bentley and measure less with the engine hot

Everything else checks out as common for the 72/73 engines. Now that it is timed
correctly, it does not back fire when cold and it runs MUCH better all around but I still
lack power on start up and the power gradually increases as the engine warms up.
Granted, its 50 degrees warmer than two weeks ago so the car does warm up more quickly.
The car has run well with this set-up in the past. I checked my overflow hose for the
gas tank and replaced it with a brass elbow and some large fuel hose. Though the
overflow hose was cracking, it was not falling apart so I don't think any water (and
certainly no debris) could have made it into the cracks that were starting to form. The
gas tank is clean inside. I've owned the car since last summer and have replaced all the
fuel line and the box fuel filter (2 months ago).

Anyway, I want to figure out what might be causing this problem. And hopefully I will
have the $$ to fix it; money is tight without a regular full-time job. I have 3
part-time jobs though and having a car to get between them is very helpful and one might
go full-time soon, which would be great.

I appreciate all the help from the list, and I have been perusing the archives as well.
The car is running better and I am hoping to have it fixed shortly and I think, with
help, I can do it.
Thanks.
Jim
