Since you're customizing by converting to 12v, why limit yourself to the 30 amps put out by the generator? Somebody on this list posted a conversion to the Mitsubishi alternator, this gives 12v 80amps.
Side note: I just smoked the bearings in my generator, on the freeway at 75mph! RMMW wants $140+ for a rebuilt generator, I can get it rebuilt locally(Kent, Wa) for $75+. If I can come up with the correct Mitsubishi alternator core, The Rebuilder said he'd rebuild that for less than $100. I'm pretty sure I can convert to the alternator for what RMMW wants for a generator. This will give me enough power to install the high powered driving lights, big stereo and a few more electrical goodies in the Variant.
