The beautiful Autostadt 'catalogue' of vehicles in the "Zeithaus" and some in the Stiftung Automuseum gives production figures for all Type 3s (2,583,015), plus Square (1,202,483) and Fastback (810,284), which by my reckoning makes Notchbacks 570,248. No info on early and late models though. I don't know if it's possible to order the book through a VW dealer, but it's ISBN 3-7688-1248-0 (this is the English version). Amazon doesn't come up with it on a search (nor Amazon.de). Dave.
