Thanks,

It turns out that the "truck" noise was mostly caused by vibration in one of
the doors. All of the trim is missing, so it's hardly surprising. I put my
hand on the door, and everything quietened down.

I plan to get a Bentley manual soon. I haven't got one yet, because I
understood it was mostly relevant to fuel injected engines. However, neither
Muir or Haynes, the books I do have, give much info on the AT.

I was aware that I wasn't checking it properly, but as I coudn't start the
engine until today, I just looked to see that the transmission had some oil
in it, without checking the actual level. It may be that the gear lever is
not changing gear, and that the car is always in "drive" or whatever. I
suppose a cable may have got disconnected or something, or maybe I'm in for
an expensive job on the transmission. I doubt if I could do it myself,
judging by what I've read about automatic transmissions.

'69 T34: Everthing missing, but the engine works.

PS I really hope all our list members and their families are safe after
today's appalling terror attacks in the US. My sister-in-law just happened
to be in Manhattan today, and we had a couple of tense hours till we heard
from her.
