The insides of the bearings, where I usually look for wear, were actually pretty good, it's just that they were loose in the case so there would have been a lot of oil loss out there where it did no good. It's actually kind of surprising that they were in such good shape. The little dowell pins that position the bearings had obviously been working rather hard, as they were all rather loose in their holes. I don't really think this will be a problem in a rebuild because those pins don't (or shouldn't) really do anything once the case is tight around the bearings.
