The louvers go down, and face away from the crankcase joint. There is a 
picture in the Bentley, Chapter 3, page 41, fig 20-8. It shows it with the 
gaskets, but you dont need them. Just use silicone. 
Does your new plate have a ridge around the outside??? That is the seal.
