Check the pump cover to make SURE the flat surface is really flat.
I have some stock covers I have ground flat if you have a problem
there.

I think that groove is a really simple solution to a real problem. I
wonder if this is a standard solution or if it was a VW exclusive.

Please don't forget to mention that I keep banging on you to forget
about pressure because all you really need is FLOW.

Huh?? The larger hole mates to the larger hole in the case. If yours
doesn't you have the wrong pump for your case.

How much of a leak did you have? No matter how careful I have
been, my engines always get a bit oily on the bottom after a few
years. It would be nice to say that everything stays nice and dry
forever, but that just hasn't been my lot so far. OTOH, factory
engines were the same, so I don't really feel bad about this. I take
comfort in the fact that the oil prevents the case and cooling tin
from rusting away, so the parts I have to worry about eventually are
those which stay completely dry.

Hoping NOT to hear that blood curdling scream.... ;-)
