RE: [T3] Pan/Chassis exchange

filling teh chassis vin sounds pretty good. i have 2 squares at hiome. one
of them is titled and licensed. the other i bought real cheap but never
transfered teh title plus i lost it. They both are 69's and savanna beige. i
thought about switching plates and the vin plate under teh hood! They'll
never Know
hell i thought about just switching the plates so i vould drive the other
one with out haveing to hassle with the lost title business.

I don't. This is commonly done to stolen BMWs etc. to
hide the car's
original VIN. I don't think that our DMV would allow a
cut and weld
here,
but they do allow that a new VIN (from another car)
can be punched in
next
to the old one, if one were to replace the pan. I am
not sure of the
procedure here. And if I know my country well enough,
one probably has
to
pay some tax for this.

If you are talking about the chassis number...do
not cut! Especially in Cali, they can X-ray for signs
of alterations, and you can get into serious trouble.
They might make you get a new VIN number and the new
number will be starting that year...so it would end up
being a 2001 which you will have to abide by the DEQ
regulations to the year your car is identified as,
making it extremely hard to pass DEQ.

I am actually just getting ready to cut apart a
squareback's sills and pan to save my Fasty. The
Squareback was a Cali car, the squareback was given to
me without a title. If you notice on both Oregon and
Cali titles, the chassis number is not recorded, only
the VIN number...but the dash can be replaced easily
but the chassis number would have to cut.

Which brings up the point...how many cops or DMV
inspectors would even know that the chassis number is
even on the tunnel underneath the seat? So likely no
one would even know it is there except the owner.

I have just ordered some Por-15 and i had an idea to
fill the hole in with "epoxy putty" then sand and
paint over the top of it. This would hardly be
noticed, and you could play "dumb"..."well i don't
know anything, when i bought my car it was like
this....i don't know of any more numbers besides this
<pointing at your dash>"

so you decide if you want to play "dumb" or cut and
weld and possibly deal with the state...you choose.
