I'd like to get a consensus as to whether I should put these seals on my doors now or later. Heres the deal: My present seals are SHOT. Totally shot. Barely any use at all. Can't take the car to the car wash without the floor getting wet. I did just paint the floor with corroless and all the carpeting is out so the dries pretty quick when it's toweled down. I'm about to take this road trip to see Jim in Madison, and it is thunderstorm season. My car is presently coated in about 3 too many coats of paint. The whole car needs to be re-painted, completely stripped down and repainted. This is going to cost alot, but apparently this is an expense Keira is willing to cover. No prob BUT my experience with all things auto in NYC has been that everyone is interested in half-assing work. I think the BEST I could expect in the city is Maaco. I dont have a garage so I can't do the prep. So what we're talking about is alot of legwork, and alot of research, and a gamble . In the interest of time, Keira suggested that maybe I should just get the doors done with some standard issue color orange that could be matched anywhere while I was in Madison; that Jim (you listening Jim?) would probably know someone reliable to do the work while I was in WI for four or five days. That way it wouldn't be TOO much time w/o the seals, and I could put them on after the paint job. But this seems a little half-baked. Barring that, before I had any paint work done, it would probably be a few months at the earliest, and most likely at least a year. So I'm wracking my brain: should I put the seals on the door now or no? They would have to come off when the car gets painted right? And removing them will prob. destroy them, right? And they're expensive. So, at a loss, I'm wondering what you guys would do. Put on the seals now, or wait? ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
