> I have often come across the description (in American Mags etc.) of > 'Genuine VW 041 Racing heads" .What are these & how do they differ > from the std. twin port head. > I also read about various heads specified by numbers like this and > don't know what these numbers mean or where they came from. > Does anyone know? Can you write out an explanation of each? >> I don't know who invented these numbers but the only place I've ever seen them is from the Mofoco catalog 1-800-553-8955, www.mofoco.com. In their catalog they list these heads which they build; O4O: dual port, come stock or bored out for 90.5, 92 or 94 cylinders. cast in brazil machined in milwaukee, 35.5mm intake X 32mm exhaust O41: dual port heavy duty springs, 39mm intake, 32mm exhaust. made by mofoco 042: brand new, not rebuilt, made by moforo, stanless steel 40mm intake, 35.5 exhaust, 3/4" reach spark plugs, standard bore I don't know. I have installed the 040's on a friends bus and had a hell of a time getting the exhaust on because the heads make the longblock a bit longer. I called them and they said to use a hammer on the exhaust. I stay with the stock heads, but they did work for my friend once I got the exhaust on, and Mofoco is great for rebuilding your solex carbs anyway. -Chris 70 fastback 72 slowbus ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
