According to the owners manual for the 66/67 Type 3 (Thanks, Jim), the '66 still had the continuously variable speed on the wipers and it was controlled by turning the knob. The 2-speed version showed up on the '67 model. There is no additioanl switch or dial that I have found on the '66. Only the irovy knob with the push button for the windshield washer in the center.
