Yes, left mark is TDC.

I think ALL of these dists are combination vacuum/mech advance, 
but frequently the mech adv is frozen up due to corrosion from lack 
of lubrication. You can tell a mech adv dist by pulling off the rotor 
and looking down inside the shaft. If it's solid there is no mech 
advance; if there is a felt plug or some kind of snap ring, etc there 
then there is a mech adv. You can do a simple test by just 
grabbing the rotor and twisting it and the shaft CW. It should turn 
easily and smoothly and then return under its own spring tension.

I think it can go to 32 or 34, but you really don't want much more 
than that (measured at high rpm in your driveway.) That's with the 
mech adv dist. The vac advance on a combination vac/mech 
advance dist should do NOTHING at idle. If yours does something, 
then it is hooked up wrong (to the wrong point) or you have the 
wrong combination of parts.
