Re: [T3] Electronic Ignition..... ?(any thoughts)

Dave,

I used to carry spare left and right rear torsion bars in my 1973 Type 2
Kombi campervan. On one trip across the Sahara Desert I was able to donate
one to somebody else whose Type 2 Microbus had broken a rear torsion bar. We
changed torsion bars out in the desert. It took a whole day and the main
problem was getting the inner half of the broken torsion bar out. However,
when finished, the job still wasn't quite satisfactory because his vehicle
was a Microbus (Type 22) whereas mine was a Kombi (Type 23). The rear
torsion bars are different, the Microbus having softer suspension. The
result was that the vehicle still rode a little lop-sided. However, this
just might have been an alignment problem.
I understand that the same difference occurs in Type 3s. Heavy duty option
M-263 squarebacks would have different torsion bars, too. I don't know
whether ordinary squarebacks (Type 36) have different rear torsion bars
compared to notchbacks and fastbacks (Type 31). Maybe Type 34s are
different, too. (I must look this up on my ETKA CD-ROM but this means using
a PC with Windows and not my iMac.)
