well good news and bad news on my first rebuild. i got the engine in and running (running strong after i adjusted the timing and the carbs (carbs as best i could)). well it wanst running perfect but it got me the 35 miles home from my dad's house where it has been for a year. now here is what happened. early on the engine had power and i even accelerated up a gradual hill in 4th gear (the carbs are dual 42 DCNFs by the way and this is a 1971 squareback). so anyhow good power and i am up to speed pretty easily on the freeway. now here is where it sucks. hit my offramp and get the red light. green light i go to shift into first and drive away, power is GONE!!! i limp up to speed and shift to 2nd and same thing: power is not there. i dont get it. let me tell you the story with the engine and what i think is up. i am missing the deflector plates that go where the fan housing meets the cylinder tin. the deflectors make the bottom half of that meeting area, but both are gone. the carbs are out of tune, i am know Weber genius so i was only able to do so much. the engine itself is a little tired (all used parts but with only 100 miles at he most on them). since i have carbs and not the FI (it was shot and i need to fix it) the oil bath air cleaner is not there. now since the carbs are just out in the open is the air they are getting pre-heated from the heat of the exhaust and engine? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
