If the rear piston was not stuck in place it should have moved forward and blocked that hole. If you then put the screw back it, it would not be in the right position and may well have destroyed a seal, or the piston, in the process. You could take the screw back out and look in there while you push the rear piston in with a screwdriver. If you see the front piston pass by the hole, it was probably in the wrong place. If you like, I could rather easily disassemble it and check it over for you. This is not a good thing to take chances with.
