I've been on this list from time to time and have been toying with the idea of buying another fastback. (I'm up in Bellingham, WA, in case anyone has a cherry fasty for cheap). The one I'm looking at is a '69. The guy is asking $500. It needs an engine and some interior work (mostly a dash pad and a weekend working on the front seats), as well as seals, and some attention to the light rust on the floor. It started out a deep blue color, and was amateurishly painted off-white, and the rear license bracket was moved down for whatever reason. The interior is white, but I'm not sure if it's original. It has pop-out rear windows. The front end is crunch-free, save for a little dent down below where noone can see it. The engine supposedly just needs a new block. The pan looks completely pristine from below, though I'm probably just looking at the sound deadening material. From inside, there is definitely some surface rust; it seems as though water leaked in and sat there for a while. I'm thinking of stripping it out and having it blasted and repainted (it doesn't have to look nice, fortunately). Down the road a bit I'd like to have it repainted a color that doesn't clash with the original blue. Something like the late-model Civic Si blue. -Frank ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/
