Hello Volks, There was an interesting article in the paper today about the alternative fuel e85 - a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Wanted to hear some input on how ethanol affects/does not affect our older VW engines. There was also a web site link for more info www.e85fuel.com. With the past discussions on higher CO2 emissions from our cars, I was curious if this was an option? The website states that there is only one major additional part that is included on an Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) - the fuel sensor that detects the ethanol/gasoline ratio. A number of other parts on the FFV's fuel delivery system are modified so that they are ethanol compatible. The fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel injectors, anti-siphon device and dashboard gauges have been modified slightly. Alcohols are corrosive. Therefore, any part that comes in contact with the fuel has been upgraded to be tolerant to alcohol. Normally, these parts include a stainless steel fuel tank and Teflon-lined fuel hoses. Also stated was that the e85 provides a higher octane rating than regular unleaded and that the gasoline is added to provide good cold start and warm up performance due to ethanol's low volatility, which results in more difficulty vaporizing at cold starts. What do y'all think :) Diana '66 Square 12V ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
