I've used several things for this kind of service, but the best I have 
found is a cheap Sears 12V charger. I think it is just a 4A/8A 
version, but on the low setting the charge current (into a charged 
up battery) is low enough that it could be left on indefinitely. They 
are a lot cheaper than $60.

Another way to approach this is to use any old charger and hook it 
up via a lamp timer set to run 1 hour a day.

I don't know if Sears still has any 6V/12V chargers, but it would be 
worth checking out.
