Condensor $2 (?), coil $20 (?).  Try the condensor first!   I understand a
pit on the fixed contact does mean too low a value of condensor (or too
high a coil value if not stock), if we believe the rule given by a trained
mechanic.

The condensor and coil have to be matched to get the best performance.
Coils get lower in value as their turns short out, and capacitors also go
low if they begin to fail.
Theory says it's the condensor - I'd like to know•7ßory stands up.
