Imagine a daily driver, going twelve months a year, with 7 months of winter with salt to get rid of ice, and the fuel neck sitting just in the spray of the right front wheel. In addition, an owner who never thought of rust protection..... This fuel neck was as perforated as a sponge, there was water in the tank, in the line and there was -15C.... Let me rephrase that, there was ICE in the tank and in the line. So, I started looking for a type3 at the junkyard, as easy as finding the famous needle in the hay, thanks to the before mentioned salt. I cut the old neck as little as possible, and used the flexible part from a parts bug and made a temporary arrangement until I could find a good replacement, which I luckily did. This is not the perfect replacement, the neck was from a '70, the cap is different from my '73s cap, but who cares on a dark car? > > Is there a market for all the crap like this filling my basement? Could be, but here in Norway most of the Type3s are gone, rusted away. Here in my hometown, there are currently 1 Square (mine) and 2 Fastys, both late style. It all depends of what you've got in your basement. Here, anything could be needed. I've actually considered getting a parts car from another country. Oh, the rubber collar between the fuel filler neck and the fender is totally toasted on my car too. I've super glued it together to keep spray from the wheel away, but the glue dissolved when I spilled some fuel on it :-( I could use one of those too.
