Okay, I did my first welding on my Jetta. I bought it used and it didn't have a tail pipe. I cleaned all surfaces to be welded and yes, it was a steel (magnetic) pipe, not aluminum. I had a very difficult time getting and keeping a standard 'buzzzz' arc and weld puddle. Now, my practice welds looked really good but when it came to the real deal, well, boy do I need more practice! Since I want to do more exhaust/tubular welding in the future, particularly custom work on my Squareback, what can those of you experienced welders recommend I do? The pipe in question was 18-gauge and I was welding the pipe to the muffler via an adapter (same material as new tail pipe). Toby "damn light saber is harder to wield than it looks!"
