45hp DIN given as the 1500 single carb. For the fifties Beetle, 30hp DIN worked outÚ÷Öø SAE, and 54hp DIN of the 1500S = 66hp SAE. DIN is a German standard that measures the engine output with all the ancillaries on it - cooling fan, dynamo etc. SAE is just the basic power plant output, so is more (about 20%). Dave.
