The 1500S actually had a bit more power (66 bhp) than the 1600 (63 bhp),
though I suspect the FI always had the edge there once it came out.  The
1500 single carb was down on power by comparison.
Mine have done 92 to 95 mph at times (speedo checked with mile posts; one
twin Solex, other FI), but I have changed my outlook on driving fast to
preserve the bearings that much longer.
