First, look at the old seal (however damaged or thrashed) to see how it fit in terms of the groove that contacts the metal. Believe me, it isn't always obvious. Once you're sure you know which side to glue down and which side faces out (to contact with the trunk), pull off the old seal and thoroughly clean the surface of any old glue and dirt. A paint scraper works well for this, but it will also take off paint (duh) so be careful. OK, so now you've got a clean mounting surface and your new seal in hand. BEFORE applying the adhesive (I use 3M brand - black) put the seal in place so you know exactly how it should/will fit when you eventually bust out the glue. The two ends should meet at the bottom center. You don't have to be exactly in the center but just make sure you don't join the ends at the top, as you'll most probably develop leaks here. Now remove the new unglued seal and grab your tube of adhesive. Lay the seal out and, working carefully so as to not bunch the adhesive up anywhere, evenly apply adhesive to the inside groove of the seal where it will contact the metal. If you have a friend that can help in the next step, you're better off, but it can be done alone. Quickly (before the adhesive begins to fuse the seal together) place the seal back on the way you had it in your test fitting. Do *not* get the adhesive on your paint (or if, WHEN, you do, wipe it off quickly) as it eats paint. Cut off any excess rubber so that the two ends join together (if in doubt about how much to cut, remember less is better than more so be careful) and apply adhesive to the ends where they touch. Run your hands around the seal a few times to make sure it's seated properly, and th9 t dry for at least an hour, preferably a few, before closing the trunk on it. Shut the trunk, start your fasty and smile........ :) Good luck!
