Never seen one myself, but I've not made a close study of early Type 3s. It could be they feared corrosion between the dissimilar metals. I once (25 yrs ago?) made the mistake of fitting an aluminium battery clamp to my 6V Beetle; one week later I couldn't understand why I couldn't get it to start. A voltmeter showed the 6 Volts I expected, but still nothing moved. When I found a lamp wouldn't light between the clamp and negative, but it would from battery pole to pole, all became clear. That was when I found you can have Volts without Amps. Dave. Has anyone ever seen this copper ground strap? It was just a tiny "U" shaped strap with a hole in each end so it could slip around the gasket allowing one of the bolts to pass through each end, once on each side of the rubber gasket.
