It's been done before in an emergency, but connect the negative to a clean point on the body not too close to the battery to reduce the current a little, and prevent the spark igniting any gases, and disconnect again as soon as possible. Don't have any radio, lights etc on, and check idiot lights work correctly after. Dave.
