In a way I'm relieved to hear that.  I don't fancy hammering a pin out of a
good chrome push-button latch in case it breaks the casting.  VW say the
ignition key can't be changed to match the doors, which would have been the
other way to go to 1 key for all locks (by matching the others to the
tailgate).
